Recipe: Uses for Boiled Ground Beef - Hi Lorraine, I have an idea or two for you
Main Dishes - AssortedSome time ago, I came across a suggestion to save money by buying ground beef in bulk, and boiling it, repacking, and freezing it for later use. Then using the broth for soups and stews.
Well, I tried it. It tasted different to us than frying up the ground beef, and the texture had less "bite", too, but it was no doubt healthier. And the broth was not very flavourful, in my opinion, either. But, each to her own! Been there, done that; I moved on.
Meanwhile, like you, I had a bunch of frozen one pound packs of ground beef to soldier on through!
They were convenient, I can say that much for them.
We used them for highly seasoned dishes such as tacos, burritos (you can just use flavour packets from the grocery store, if you wish; I make my own), and spaghetti sauce (to which I add sausages (spicy Italian) without the casings, browned with fat removed from the pan, in a proportion of about 3:1 (e.g., to a pound of ground beef, I would add a couple of sausages; this would do for a great big pot of spaghetti).
In short, do not stint on the spices! You can do it, I have great faith in you!
Cheers!
Carolyn!
