We love this recipe, enjoying this dih at least a half dozen times a year. You won't be disappointed!
WHEELER'S HOT GERMAN POTATO SALAD
9 medium potatoes
6 slices bacon
3/4 cup chopped onion
2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp celery seed
dash ground black pepper
3/4 cup water
1/3 cup vinegar
2 pkgs (12 oz each) kielbasa
2 tbsp shortening
Peel potatoes; boil in water until tender; drain and set aside.
In large skillet, fry bacon until crisp; remove and drain.
Cook onions in bacon drippings until clear. Blend in flour, sugar, salt, celery seed and pepper. Cook over low heat until bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in 3/4 cup water and vinegar. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir for 1 minute.
Crumble bacon. Slice potatoes 1/4-inch thick. Gently stir bacon and potatoes into hot mixture. Heat through.
Slice kielbasa and brown in shortening in skillet. Add to potato salad and serve.
