Recipe: Whole Grain Cookies (using wheat germ, sunflowers and sesame seeds)

WHOLE GRAIN COOKIES

2/3 cup shortening (part butter)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup quick oatmeal, uncooked
3 tbsp. wheat germ
3 tbsp. salted sunflower nuts
3 tbsp. sesame seeds

Cream shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla in large mixing bowl; set aside.

Sift flour, baking soda and salt together. Add to creamed mixture and beat until well mixed. Stir in oats, wheat germ, sunflower nuts and sesame seeds. Shape into balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 13 to 15 minutes.

Makes about 4 dozen cookies
