ISO: baking book

I bought a stand mixer last night and am dying to get started baking, but this is a new area for me. I'd like to find a comprehensive baking book with recipes that are easy enough for neophites like me, but that won't bore me in a few months. Almost every general book at Amazon is said to be "the one to have", so I'm thoroughly confused. Do you guys have any favorites?
