If you want AUTHENTICITY... This is how the LITTLE TAVERN burgers are made!!
A) They use DEHYDRATED diced onion- that they Soak in water until Moist ( they do not SAUTE them )
B) They did not ORIGINALLY use black pepper, they used MccCormick All season (it's orange in color)
C) They did not use "Hawaiian" bread", just regular mini hamburger buns.
D) They use regular Dill Hamburger pickle Chips.
You make a good sized meatball with FRESH ground beef.
You put it on a griddle style grill, and flatten with a spatula. You add the Spice, then the onion. cook for about 3-5 mins and FLIP. then another 3-5 mins.
put the pickles on the Bottom Bun, place burger on top, Ketchup & mustard (regular)and Enjoy.
NOTE: there are 2 LITTLE TAVERN SHOPS left in MD.
1) Holabird Avenue 2) Eastern Ave.
But... the old shop in LAUREL, MD is now open as a DONUT shop, HOWEVER they also are serving the Little Tavern burgers.
The laurel LITTLE TAVERN would have been 70 years old THIS year... I Cried when it closed. It was my 1st SOLID food as a child, Many memories. and I worked there for a short stint as well.
