ISO: black and decker 2300 bread maker

I have received a Black and Decker 2300 bred maker for Christmas.I have used the recipes exactly as indicated in the accompanying manual.Each time the bread comes out incredibly heavy and essentially inedible.The loaves weigh several pounds.Any suggestions?
