ISO: Chinese steamed/baked custard buns

Misc.

Hi all,

I am looking for a Chinese custard buns recipe that my husband really enjoys. These buns are either steamed or baked. The steamed ones are soft and the baked ones are crispy and flaky. (I reckon they use the filo pastry?) Not too sure though. I have the recipe to make the soft dough but I need the recipe for the custard. It is a soft, yellow, and sweet custard. I think these buns are called "Nai Huang Bao"? (not too sure of the spelling either... :( They are usually sold at the Cantonese take away or restaurants. I have been searching for the recipe on the Net but couldn't find anything close to it. Can anyone help me? Thanks a lot.
