ISO: Chocolate Fudge Frosting

In the 1960's and 70's my grandmother always baked a deep chocolate, fudge cake with a chocolate fudge frosting. The frosting got kind of a crust on it after it set-up vs a butter-cream stays soft. I'm looking for grandma's deep choclate fudgy fudge frosting. I've tried the one from Hersey's-not the same! I'm hoping someone had a grandma or mom from that era who made a similarly delicious fudge icing.
