ISO: hard chocoate icing

I also am looking for a hard chocolate icing, my father used to make it, and his mother made it, and no one has the recipe. I know the ingredients were butter, sugar, unsweetened chocolate and vanilla, but I don't know the quantities. It was cooked in a saucepan, and it was done when a little bit of the chocolate was dropped in water, and it would form a ball. That was the right time to take it off the heat and start icing.
