ISO: Mexican Candy

Misc.

Help!! It has been 25 years since I stopped at that little deli in southeastern Washington State and tasted that delicious and curious oddity. Upon spying the curious item in the large jar, I asked the propieter "what on earth is that?". Her response as she handed me the large dark crystaline item wrapped in a napkin was, confidently, "Mexican candy! Try some, You'll like it!". Having my courage somewhat braced by the young ladies quick and sure reply, I timidly chewed a tiny piece. That is where it all began. The desire, the yearning, the longing, the love affair and woe be me, the search. Some 100 miles down the highway I was punching myself for not buying every piece of the crystaline chunks in that deli. Since that fateful day 25 years ago I have been searching. I have searched a thousand deli's, a dozen libraries, scores of candy companies and thousands of recipe collections, but all in vain. Surely now with the help of the information age and this marvelous search tool, the world wide web, if I am ever going to find my love again, certainly, it will be here. You know? Sometimes I think I must feel like inspector Chavez in "Les Miserables". Searching for years, a quest unanswered, alas he plunged to a watery end. If you know something I will forever be in your debt. Well at least I'll cook you up a batch of this treat. Who knows you might fall in love with it to, if you aren't already.
