ISO: oatmeal and raisin cookies

Misc.
Hello,

Can anyone tell me what 'shortening' is?

I would love a recipe for oatmeal and raisin cookies if anyone has one. I have searched the net and they all have 'shortening' as one of the ingredience and I dont know what it is.

Thank you very much
