Here are a couple recipes that do not call for shortening, should make it easier for you. The first one is a bit odd, as you have to boil the raisins, which I've never heard of. The second recipe is interesting, as it has OJ, which I've never seen in oatmeal cookies, but it sounds good. The last recipe has nuts. I hope one of these works for you!
OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIES
1 c. raisins
1 c. hot water
2 c. oatmeal
1 c. brown sugar
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

2 eggs
1/2 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. oil
Boil the raisins for about 20 minutes, uncovered. Drain the liquid into a measuring cup. Add enough water to make 1/2 cup and then let cool. Cream the oil, sugar, vanilla, eggs, and raisin water. Add the dry ingredients. Mix well. Add the oatmeal, raisins, and the nuts. Mix again. Drop by flat tablespoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 8 to 10 minutes. Yields: 70 cookies.
