ISO: Oriental sauce

Does anyone know the basic ingredients of the typical Chinese stir fry sauce served typically with lo mein, fried rice etc. It's that great Chinese food aroma that is recognized as soon as someone brings in Chinese food for lunch, or even when driving by a Chinese restaurant. I know there's many bottled stir fry sauces available, but there's always something missing.
