I trim artichokes, wash them well by plunging them upside down in water, then without drying them wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and stand them on a plate and cook them in the microwave on high. Check after 3-4 minutes cause they can get too done, but you know they're ready when you can easlily pierce the base with your fingernail. This method works great, and you can't go wrong with good old hollandaise sauce.
