ISO: re: Sour cream on pierogi question answered

Misc.
Kim,
Don't let those ladies get to you. All my recipes come from my husband's mother through her mother. The recipe book doesn't even have portion amounts. Just handed down, and I am the only daughter-in-law who can make the Polish recipes. But to ans. your question: My hubby hates sour cream, but I love it, and I started using it on my pierogies when I was served it as an accompaniment at a Polish restaurant. And this restuarant was known for it's Polish food. The owners were "very" Polish.
As you know, Polish food differs extensively throughout Poland, and it is what you get used to. My husband and I find my Polish sister-in-law's pierogies not at all to our liking. Now, my mom-in-law made her cheese pierogies with farmer's cheese, and never put potatoes in her cheese pierogies. She also put sugar in her recipe. Her sauerkraut pierogies were to die for, and she always rinsed her sauerkraut. I see a lot of recipes on here that are similar, but not quite like hers. And I love sour cream on both as long as they are fried.
So, it just might be that the women you work with don't like sour cream, don't fry their pierogies (to me, sour cream on boiled pierogies wouldn't taste too good), or all come from families that just never used sour cream on their pierogies. In fact, my husband thinks it yucky to put it on them, too. But I love it!
