ISO: Young wife and mother needs help with cooking

Please help! I am a young wife and mother that has never learned to cook. NOw with a husband and our precious little girl it is very important to me. I am tired of throwing dinner in the trash can because it is no good. Any ideas to for help on what to cook for dinner? Fish and seafood is out of our budget. I have some recipe books but seem to chose all the wrong ones to try. My husband is a real meat and veggie man. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
