Jackie, thanks for posting this! I'm also an ex-South African. I have not made Bobotie because my DH does not like cooked egg, and the egg/milk mix poured over at the end forms an eggy custard. It had never occurred to me to just leave it out, as you and your friend do. I believe Bobotie is traditionally served with yellow rice, rice cooked with turmeric, raisins, and a cinnamon stick.

I'll be trying this soon. If you are willing to post the Sosatie recipe I'd love to see that as well.
