Breakfast Protein for Chris

Misc.

Hi all! Sorry it has taken awhile for me to respond to Sarah's message. Our computer has been down far more than it has been working the past month.

Chris, in line with the smoothies, I would suggest tossing some tofu in. It has a bland flavor and mixed with bananas or applesauce, some cinnamon, a bit of lemon juice, a splash of vanilla and a little salt, it can be delicious. The salt helps to remove some of the tofu flaovr and make it more nuetral while adding seetness to the fruit.

As you can tell by reading Sarah's post, it is difficult to find high protein sources that are not also high in fat. Unless, of course you go to man-made low-fat or non-fat products, ie. yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream, etc. It has been a long time since I studied lifecycle nutrition but I would bet that adolescents, being in a crucial growth period, need the fat as well as the protein. I would look into that if I were you.

And I have been a long time advocate of "Diet for a Small Planet," by Frances Moore Lappe, which Sarah recommended. It was just revised and updated and should be easy to find.

That's my limited wisdom on this topic. I hope it might be helpful to you.
Be well.
