Good watermelon

I'd be interested to know the perfect way, too. That knock method never worked for me. Mine probably can't be called foolproof, but it's reliable 80% of the time. The underbelly of the melon should be a warm yellow. If it's white, it will not be ripe. If the yellow spot is there and the overall appearance of the rest of the melon is a little shriveled, dinged, perhaps even with moldy spots, it likely will be overripe.

I hope someone else can give us the method to find that perfect melon. Gosh, I really love good watermelon.
