Here's what I do!

I, too had the same problem. I did two things. I bought six of the clasp sealed canisters for stuff I use regularly and keep them on the counter. And then I recycled the tropicana orange juice bottles (they have hand grips) and put all of my cereal, cornmeal, flour, sugar, rice, etc in them and label with white tape and marker.

Saves a lot of food from ruining, since I'm single and it takes forever to go through stuff!
