HOW MOM MADE SCALLOPED POTATOES

I ONLY KNEW ONE WAY TO MAKE THEM , JUST LIKE MOM. TAKE A 2 QUART BOWL, PUT IN A LAYER OF THINLY SLICED POTATOES , SPRINKLE WITH FLOUR SALT AND PEPPER, AND IF USING HAM THAT TWO. CONTINUE TILL PRETTY FULL THEN POUR IN MILK TILL IT ALMOST COVERS THE POTATOES. COVER AND BAKE ABOUT AN HOUR AT 350 DEGREES F. THEN CHECK FOR DONENESS AND STIR A LITTLE. AND CONTINUE TO BAKE ABOUT 30 MIN MORE. DID ANYONE ELSES MOM MAKE THEM THIS WAY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A RECIPE TELLING TO GO THROUGH THIS PROCEDURE. BUT I AM CURIOUS ANYWAY? IT WORKS. ALSO ISNT POTATOES WITH CHEESE SAUCE 'AU GRATIN' AND WITHOUT CHEESE SAUCE 'SCALLOPED' I AM FULL OF QUESTIONS TONIGHT. :~)
