Jackie, don't worry so much about the tikka!

the first time I made this menu, I could not find tikka paste, and used curry paste instead.

Later, I found the tikka, but to tell the truth I thought the curry paste was better!

I guess now I have to use up that tikka, tho! I'm not sure how it is near you, but here, it seems all the big supermarket chains have at least one international isle, and you can find all manner of things. The spices come in biiiig bags, and they are very reasonable, too!

We are always trying to get more beans/pulses into our diet, and this dhal is so just delicious! I hope you like it, too!

Tee hee! Are you going to dust off that slow cooker, finally? I knew I could make ya do it!

p.s. if you find the pappadums, go for it! They make a nice alternative to a regular-type starch (made from lentils, FYI, June)
