lastnight's supper...

Misc.

We have become lazy since our busy weekend. Chris complained that we have dined out too often lately because of our schedules... (In fact, I counted "3" with my fingers and that included a very unhealthy MacDonald breakfast (I've sinned.), an interesting dinner at a Korean restaurant (I don't mind going back.) and a pasta lunch at a Italian restaurant.) He "insisted" that we shall eat at home this week as we normally do. Therefore, I made sure he help in the kitchen last night. Ha!

We had our Chinese meal again. If you are a regular here on TKL, you'd probably been sick of what I posted by now. (Chinese food and more Chinese food! And that's probablly one of the only few things I am good at...) Do not procede reading if you aren't up to Chinese stuff...

We had steamed long grain rice. To that we served Ching Du Pork Back Ribs (Some people call it pork ribs in Peking Sauce.) It's sort of "sweet & Sour" (to me) but very different from what you experience of, i.e. not bright red in color, not really sweet, nor sour, no thick floury coating... It's very simple to do (because Chris isn't up to do something difficult if he is asked to be a helping hand...) The secret is the worcestershire sauce. Yeah, Chinese do use this "western" sauce in the cooking a bit. ^_^ Then we had Braised Chinese Mushrooms and Tofu. (We always make sure that there is at least one vegetable dish on the dining table.) Right, it's tofu, the funny, tasteless bean curd by itself. But it is eally good for you, especially for women after 45, or at menopause. This is a traditional Cantonese dish, so it's rather mild.

Then we finished it up with a small 3-layer sponge cake with strawberries and Kirsch-flavored cream, nothing fancy, indeed. (There were too many strawberries in the fridge so I decided to use them in the cake.) "I" had the cake with a strong cup of expresso. (The rest of the family never touch coffee! They drank milk!)

The best part is at the end of the supper Chris' brother did the dishes while we were enjoying reading our books and music in the lounge (because he didn't cook!) By the way, I am reading High Flyer by Lohn Francome and the music was Andrea Bocelli's Romanza. A very peaceful night.

ps: We had the answer machine on...
