ponche romano is from spain
Misc.Hello all, el ponche romano is originally a dessert from Spain. I am from Cuba and remember going to el Vedado residential area to an old Spanish style house where the Casa Liana gourmet bakery was located just to purchase their unique Ponche Romano (Roman Punch). It has marzipan, it's soaked in sherry and the cones on top are capuchinos, shaped like the hats of the Capuchin monks of Spain, also soaked in sherry and with a rich egg/vanilla flavor. The capuchinos also came in round shapes called Panetelas Borrachas or drunken cakes. We got those at the famous La Gran Via bakery also in the El Vedado district. I wish I could relive those days again. I will look for the real Ponche Romano recipe.
