re: Gnats

Misc.
I recently had problems with small gnats too. I did some research and discovered they were called "moth flies" in the gnat/fruit fly family. They lay their eggs in the decomposing matter that builds up in your sink/shower drains. This is especially true if you have a slow moving drain somewhere in the house. The research said that bleach/ammonia/hot water/draino will not completely eliminate the problem. The recommended remedy is to scrub the drain pipes (as far down as you can) to remove the material they lay their eggs in. Also, you can special order some sort of gel that coats the pipes and kills the decaying matter. I scrubbed the drain I thought they were coming from and it helped alot. If you aren't sure which drain they are coming from, putting a piece of saran wrap over the suspected drain over night and see if bugs collect against it. Hope this helps.
