the mixer could'nt be the cause of a dry cake
I would guess the baking time is too long or oven temperature is too hot or maybe your recipe has too much flour but if your using your kitchenaid the for the same time you were using a hand held mixer it souldnt effect the out come of a cake. Is this a tried and true recipe or is it your first try.
the only thing you could overbeat are egg whites.
