re: Penang lor mee
Misc.Hi Pete and Karen (and Happy Birthday to YOU, Karen)
Hmmm, I did some 'armchair' traveling to Melaka, some beautiful buildings there! Melaka is named after a tree; how wonderful is that!
I like to put maps of various countries into my recipe books to find out the area a recipe is from. Seeing the native dress and trying to (in my mind's eye) picture the sights and imagine the aromas.
From what I gathered, Lor Mee is a noodle. The broth is made from prawn (shrimp) shells and sometimes with the addition of pig bones? I saw variations, some broths were thin/clear and another version would be darker. No recipes were available; only photographs.
My daughter lives in Columbus, Ohio; which has a large influx of about every nationality; Asian being one of them. I've shopped in the local import stores for both Asian, Indian and Mexican foods; what a treat. I may just stop in the next time I visit with my daughter to see if one of the owners know of the recipe or if my daughter can find it for me.
Thank you for responding to my message. You have stirred my imagination and expanded my horizons. Best of luck in your search.
May your holidays and holy days be wonderful.
LaDonna
