Soft brown sugar

I have had great success keeping brown sugar soft by buying the sugar in a plastic bag instead of the box, and then keeping it in a tight container, still in the plastic. I fold the plastic over before I put on the lid. My sugar stays soft even for the four or five minths that I'm not in Florida. It stays as nice as when I first opened the bag. I think the secret is keeping in the plastic and the cannister.
