Recipe: 80th Birthday Party Ideas

Holidays, Celebrations
Hello!

Congratulations to your Mother....wow 90 years. I agree with Kelly, the changes your Mom has lived through are simply breathtaking.

All of the ideas are wonderful...here are a couple more: There are prob. a number of grand and great grand children....involve them with all of their talents. Have someone write a poem. Play instruments, sing songs, or tell stories. If the interest is there put together a fashion show of styles of clothing in her life....or better yet if she has saved some of her clothes from the past....wear these.

If there is time, let guests know to bring a photo from the past with an explanation of it written out. These can all be put into an album. Think of the family history that will be documented this way. You could get a headstart on this by putting together a few pages ahead of time. Include the standard family pics... of life events. She may have pics from school, church, or in the community. There might be some history with or without pics at your local historical center, or newspaper. Some community libraries have wonderful records as well.

Depending on where you are in the country you can go online and copy original homesteading papers, landgrants, immigrations records, etc. Put a grandchild to work researching Grandma and the family. I don't know if you have recorded her telling stories in the past....but if not, this might be the time to do that. If she is not comfortable with this, try just taping her talking. You can set up the machine, and then start asking her questions to get the stories going.

If you have a quilter in the family...make a photo quilt. Have the quilt blocks precut and have everyone write a message on them in fabric pens the day of the party.

If your Mom is interested set up a fund to make a donation in her name to her favorite charity, school, church, library, womens' shelter, mission, zoo. Whatever has been her passion...help her make it timeless. This does not have to be alot of money. Any amount is appreciated by organizations.

If your Mom is physically able, plan something that will let her be involved. Dancing, croquet, walking around to greet her guests. If she is not able...then plan the party to travel around her and the comfortable throne you place her on. Remember to rotate the people that sit with your Mom. This will give her a chance to visit with everyone.

If your Mom is at a Care Center.....there is a piano. Find someone to come and play it. Play the old songs, and sing along. Provide cake or cookies for everyone....

Whatever you do...your efforts are wonderful, and will be so appreciated. Blessings to you, your MOm, and your family.
