Recipe: Baked Doughnut Puffs

Breads - Muffins, Quick Breads
BAKED DOUGHNUT PUFFS

2 tbsp shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
FOR TOPPING:
1/4 cup confectioners sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup butter , melted

Cream shortening, sugar and egg until light and fluffy.

Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and nutmeg. Add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Mix well (this will be a stiff dough.) Stir in nuts.

Drop from tablespoon into well greased small size muffin-pan cups.

Bake in hot oven (400 degree F) 20 minutes.

Combine confectioner's sugar and cinnamon in a food-grade paper bag.

Dip top of doughnuts in melted butter; shake 2 or 3 times in sugar. Serve hot.

Makes 1 dozen
