Roberta. You are ohhhh sooo right ...
there are many ways to cook a ham.
Cooking instructions depend on the ham you buy.
The recipe below assumes you are using
an uncooked ham. OMIT the boiling
instructions if you are using a precooked ham.
You can save yourself a lot of work by
buying a pre-cooked ham to begin with.
And, this recipe is for a 10 lb ham.. increase
the recipe for a larger ham.
Roberta, To make this even easier, you might
considering buying a pre-cooked AND pre-sliced
ham. The butcher will tie the ham back up
after slicing it and you glaze it and bake it
with the ties still on. When ready to serve
just snip and remove the ties.

BAKED HAM
10 lb Ham
1 c Brown sugar
1/4 c Flour
1 t Mustard, dry
1/4 c Maple syrup
3 T Water
5-10 ea Cloves, whole
Wash uncooked ham, cover with boiling
water and let cook on top of stove for 4
hours. Let ham stand in liquid over night.
Next day remove the fatty rind.
Using a large knife, make gashes diagonially
across the surface of the ham, approx 1 inch
apart. Make a second set of gashes crossing
the first set to form diamond shaped gashes
on the surface of the ham.
Stick whole cloves in the surface of the ham.
(They look nice inside the diamond shapes.)
Make a paste of the sugar, flour and mustard
by adding the syrup and water. Use water
in which ham was cooked if available.
You can also use apple cider instead of water.
Spread over ham and place in roasting pan.
Bake uncovered at 400-F for 45 minutes.
Let the baked ham cool for 10 to 20 minutes
before slicing.
For easier cleanup--place a disposable roasting
pan inside a larger roasting pan. Toss out
the disposable pan after using it this one
time.
