Recipe: Basic Homemade Pizza Sauce
Pizza/FocacciaBASIC PIZZA SAUCE
2 cans (28 ounces each) tomato puree
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
2 garlic cloves, peeled, crushed and minced
2 tablespoons tomato paste
Pinch of salt (optional)
Mix all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce and maintain at a gentle simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, for at least 15 minutes and up to 1 hour.
The sauce will keep for about a week in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It can also be frozen for up to four months.
Makes 4 cups (enough for three large pizzas)
