Recipe(tried): Beef Ragout

Main Dishes - Beef and Other Meats
Hello TKL Friends,
This is My MIL's wonderful recipe. I have some simmering right this very second. When I first met my husband, he told me his mom made the best Ragu...that's how it's pronounced...Anyhow, I didn't see what was so special about opening up a can of Ragu spaghetti sauce. I then learned that's not what he was talking about and acquired this wonderful recipe. This is great served over rice or over wide noodles.
Enjoy!

Ragout

2 lbs stewing beef cubes
2 cans French Onion Soup
1 can water
3/4 tsp. marjoram
3/4 tsp. thyme
3/4 tsp. celery salt
1/8 tsp. garlic powder or 1 clove garlic
2 bay leaves
1/4 cup wine (optional)

Brown meat in bacon grease. Add all ingredients and simmer 3+ hours.

Notes: I browned the meat using oil. I used 2 envelopes of dry onion soup mix and 5 cups of water. We bought a bottom round roast and cut our own cubes.
