BILL'S BEST HUSHPUPPIES

2 c. self-rising cornmeal
1/4 c. self-rising flour
1 egg-beaten
1 med. chopped onion
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1 1/2 - 2 cups milk (The old Southern way)

After the wife has deep-fried fish in oil, have her chop the onion & place in mixing bowl with all other ingredients except milk. She should then call you to kitchen and while she cuts and cooks French fries and prepares coleslaw, you will mix enough milk with other ingredients in bowl to make a stiff batter. be sure the wife has the oil really hot, then drop batter by teaspoon into hot oil, dipping spoon in cold water each time, When hushpuppies turn over and are brown, remove to platter, lined with paper towels to drain. Return to living room and wait for wife to finish preparing the meal and calls you to supper. ENJOY! (You've worked hard and deserve it) BILL
