Recipe: Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad (aka Layered Salad)

Salads - Vegetables
Hi Sande,

Quite a few versions of this salad have evolved over the years. With the basics staying the same, I've included ingredients from various recipes in this one:

Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad

1 bunch broccoli (flowerets only)
1 head cauliflower (flowerets only)
2 stalks celery, sliced
8 green onion bottoms, sliced or 1 small red onion, sliced
1/2 cup black olives, sliced
1 cup sour cream
1 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
1 pkg. dry Italian salad dressing mix or dry Ranch-style dressing mix
OR:
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. honey
1 tsp. salt

Wash broccoli and cauliflower; break into bite-size pieces and drain well; combine with celery, onions, and olives and other optional additions (or layer vegetables in a serving bowl (clear glass is good for this).

Dressing: Combine sour cream, mayonnaise, and dressing mix or seasonings. Gently fold dressing into vegetables or pour over layered vegetables. If desired, top with cooked, crumbled bacon. Chill 12-24 hours before serving.

Optional additions:
cherry tomatoes
frozen green peas
sliced water chestnuts, drained
diced or shredded Cheddar or Mozzarella cheese
bacon, cooked and crumbled (sprinkle over top)

Happy Cooking,

Betsy
