Recipe(tried): Cherry Chewbilee (Crisco recipe, using cream cheese and cherry pie filling)
Desserts - FruitHello Wanda, these came from a Crisco cookbook. I have made them but not recently, as I remember they turned out fine.
CHERRY CHEWBILEE
FOR THE CRUST:
1 1/4 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter-flavored Crisco (I used margarine)
1/2 cup flaked coconut
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
FOR THE FILLING:
2 pkg (8 oz each) cream cheese
2/3 cup white granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
FOR THE TOPPING:
1 (20 oz) can cherry pie filling
1/2 cup coarsely chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x13 pan.
TO MAKE THE CRUST:
Combine flour and brown sugar; cut in margarine until fine crumbs form. Add coconut and nuts; mix well. Keep 1/2 cup aside and press the rest into bottom of pan. Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 12 minutes.
TO MAKE THE FILLING:
Beat cream cheese, sugar, eggs and vanilla till smooth. Spread evenly over hot baked crust. Return to oven and bake 15 minutes longer.
TO MAKE THE TOPPING:
Spread pie filling carefully over cheese layer. Combine remaining crumbs and chopped nuts. Sprinkle over cherries and return to oven to bake for an additional 15 minutes.
Cool and refrigerate several hours. Store in fridge, freezing not recommended.
Hope these fit the bill.
