Recipe: Cherry Nut Bread (using Maraschino cherries)

CHERRY NUT BREAD

2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
12-14 chopped Maraschino cherries
3/4 cup chopped nuts
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup Maraschino cherry juice

Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening, then add cherries and nuts.

Combine eggs, milk and cherry juice. Add liquid mixture to dry ingredients; stir only till flour is moistened. Pour into a greased 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 50-60 minutes.

Makes 1 loaf
