Recipe: Chewy Dried Fruit Bars

CHEWY DRIED FRUIT BARS

1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 large egg
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chopped dried apricots (or dates or dried apple)

In large bowl beat butter, sugar, and molasses until smooth. Add egg; beat well. Stir in spices. Stir in flours, nuts, and fruit. Spread dough on greased 15x10-ingh pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for approximately 25 minutes. Cool in pan on rack. Cut into bars.

Makes 1 (15x10-inch) pan
