CHOCOLATE LUSH

FOR THE BATTER:
1 cup flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons shortening, melted
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts
FOR POURING OVER THE BATTER:
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 3/4 cups hot water
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
Combine shortening, milk, vanilla and chopped nuts. Add to dry ingredients. Mix until well blended. Spread in ungreased 8x8x2-inch pan.
Combine brown sugar, cocoa powder and 1 13/4 cups hot water, pour over top of batter.
Bake in a moderate (350 degree F) oven for 45 minutes. Cut into squares and serve warm or cold. Top with lush (the sauce).
