Recipe Collections1. Golden Door Bento Box
Every Thursday, we serve a Golden Door Bento Box lunch that has been very popular with the guests. Traditionally, bento boxes were a way for farmers and soldiers to bring meager provisions into the field or on the road. Today, bento boxes are fancy, elaborate box lunches for picnics, special celebrations and business luncheons. They are usually composed of four compartments that hold a variety of lunch items. Ours contains a Golden Door California Roll, Shrimp Nigiri Sushi, Blanched Vegetables, Seared Sea Bass, Soba Noodle-Crab Salad, Sweet and Sour Cucumber Salad and fruit for dessert.
2. Golden Gazpacho
Yellow tomatoes and corn kernels shaved from the cob give this soup its golden hue.
3. Lemon Polenta Cake with Macerated Strawberries
Fine polenta, otherwise known as cornmeal, adds a rich texture and pale yellow color to this dense, moist cake. (Avoid the coarse-grained polenta.) The cake is delicious on its own, and when topped with strawberries that have been macerated (the term for marinating fruit) in Grand Marnier, it won t get soggy - and the flavor combination is sublime. It will keep, covered, for 2 to 3 days. With a hot cup of coffee or tea, it s the perfect afternoon treat.
