Recipe(tried): Crock Pot Oatmeal

Breakfast and Brunch
Holli, with crockpot oatmeal you may also want to try steel cut oats (also called Irish oats). They require much longer cooking time than rolled oats, so they won't overcook in the crockpot. They are much different, though -- they have that familiar oat taste with a texture of barley.

A good rule of thumb for cooking steel cut oats in a crockpot is:

2 cups oats
8 cups water (or water and milk)

I cook in the water and pour a little warm milk or cream over the finished product.

Add a diced apple, some raisins or craisins, and a little cinnamon into the crockpot too, if you want.

Finally, if you don't have a nonstick crockpot try greasing the container first and then don't mix stuff when it's inside (mix beforehand).

This makes a lot, but it stores in the fridge for several days and reheats beautifully in the microwave.
