Recipe: Date-Nut Bread (1950's)

Breads - Muffins, Quick Breads
DATE-NUT BREAD

1 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup dates, cut up
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
pinch salt

Combine baking soda and boiling water and pour over dates.

Cream together egg, butter and sugar. Add dates, flour sifted with baking powder and salt and nuts.

Bake at 375 degrees F. for 1 hour in a greased loaf pan.

Double the recipe for three 7x3-inch loaf pans.
