Recipe(tried): Dutch Apple Cake (using canned pie filling)

Misc.

Hi Pat,

Here's another recipe we enjoy using apple pie filling. This would be good with other pie fillings/cake mix flavors - maybe use a chocolate cake mix with cherry pie filling (skip the cinnamon and add a little almond flavoring and almonds for chopped nuts) or lemon cake mix with blueberry pie filling, etc.

Happy Baking,

Betsy

Dutch Apple Cake
Makes one 13x9-inch cake

1 pkg. (18 1/2 oz - 2 layer size) spice cake mix (yellow or carrot cake mix would also be good)
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 eggs
1 can (21 oz) Comstock Apple Pie Filling
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup chopped nuts

In large bowl, combine dry cake mix, melted butter and eggs; blend well. Spread on bottom of 13x9-inch baking pan. Spoon pie filling evenly over batter. In small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon; cut in softened butter. Stir in nuts. Sprinkle over pie filling. Bake at 350 degrees F for 50 minutes or until cake springs back when touched lightly.
