Recipe: Frozen Cheese Sticks (using sliced bread, 1950's)
Appetizers and SnacksFROZEN CHEESE STICKS
"After making 200 of these cheese sticks for our Guild luncheon and watching them disappear like magic," writes Miss Ruby Mullendore "They're wonderfully easy to keep on hand in the freezer, from which one can bake any number needed at a moment's notice."
1 large loaf unsliced bread
1 egg white
1/4 lb. butter or margarine, room temperature
1 jar old English sharp cheese
Trim crust from bread and cut loaf into three equal sections lengthwise. Cut again crosswise into cubes about 2-inches long. Lay these (in a single layer) on a baking sheet and freeze.
Beat egg white slightly; add butter and cheese and beat together until creamy-smooth. Spread on all sides of frozen bread sticks, returning each as spread to baking sheet. When all are spread, return to freezer. You will have approximately 24 pieces.
Bake all-or any number-in preheated 325 degree F oven 15 to 20 minutes before serving hot.
Nice for snacks or to serve with soup or luncheon salads.
