Recipe: Hamburger Noodle Bake (Pet Evaporated Milk recipe, 1960's)
Main Dishes - Beef and Other MeatsHAMBURGER NOODLE BAKE
"Layered with creamy cheese and tomato sauce."
2 packages (3 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup evaporated milk
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/4 garlic salt
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
5 cups cooked noodles (cook 4 cups broken noodles)
1/2 cup cut-up onion
1/4 cup cut-up green bell pepper
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/2 cup catsup
Mix together until smooth cream cheese, evaporated milk, lemon juice, garlic salt and Worcestershire. Mix with cooked noodles in greased (11x7-inch) baking dish. Set aside.
In 10-inch skillet cook onion and green pepper in butter until tender.
Add ground beef. Stir now and then until brown.
Stir in tomato sauce and catsup. Cook over medium heat 8 minutes, until mixture thickens. Spread over noodles.
Bake in 375 degree F oven (high moderate) for 10 minutes, until bubbly hot.
Makes 8 servings
