Recipe: Hot Mulled Cider

HOT MULLED CIDER

8 c. apple cider or apple juice
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
dash ground nutmeg
Two 3-inch cinnamon sticks
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. whole cloves
8 thin orange slices or wedges
8 whole cloves

In a large suacepan combine apple cider, brown sugar and nutmeg. Make a spice bag out of cheesecloth or clean cotton. Place cinnamon sticks, whole allspice, and 1 tsp. whole cloves into bag and tie. Add to cider mixture. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 10 minutes. Remove spice bag and discard. Serve cider in mugs with a clove stidded orange wedge in each. Makes 8 servings.
