Misc. I think the easiest way is to put the butter in a saucepan and melt it slowly, so it doesn't foam. When it is melted, the solids will sink to the bottom, and the clear oil will be at the top. Pour off the oil and that is the clarified butter. Discard the solids, which is the milky residue. It works even better to pour the melted butter into a small glas measuring cup with a spout and then let the solids settle before pouring the oil off.
