Recipe(tried): Mirro Josies (Mirro Cookie Press recipe, 1950's)

Desserts - Cookies, Brownies, Bars
This is from the real old booklet that came with my Mother's cookie press back in the 50's. It has different recipes than are in the more contemporary booklets. This recipe is my very favorite....not just because it bore my nickname, but because these are very good cookies!

MIRRO JOSIES
Time: 10-12 min. Temp: 375 F

3/4 cup shortening (half butter half solid vegetable shortening)
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 cup corn starch
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

1. Cream the shortening and add sugar gradually and cream the mixture.
2. Add the egg and vanilla extract and beat the mixture very well.
3. Sift flour, corn starch, baking powder and salt and gradually add to the first mixture.
4. Stir until blended well.
5. Fill a MIRRO Cookie press.
6. Form cookies in desired shapes onto cookie sheets and bake.
