Recipe: Oven Dill Pickles

Preserving - Pickles, Relishes
OVEN DILL PICKLES

1 large bay leaf
large piece of dill
small clove of garlic
1 qt. vinegar
3 qt. water
pinch of alum
cucumbers
1 c. salt

In bottom of a jar, put bay leaf, dill and clove of
garlic. Pack pickles whole or sliced. Bring to a boil the
vinegar, water and 1 cup salt. While boiling, add pinch of
alum. Pour boiling vinegar mixture over pickles and place in a
9 x 13-inch bread pan with 1 quart of water. Place jars in
pan. Put in 350 degrees oven for 10 minutes, no longer. Take out and
let seal. Makes 6 to 7 quarts.
