I love the Take Five bars but found the poor quality chocolate Hershey uses disappointing so tried my own version. Rather than make bars and dip in chocolate I made this similar to toffee in style and broke the pieces of candy once everything set and cooled.
I had a huge container of restaurant caramel, since not everyone has this on hand I would suggest using Kraft caramels and leaving in the oven longer (if necessary) to melt the caramels so they can be spread across the top of the candy. Not sure how many to use, I just slathered caramel across the top. My guess at least a bag.
This is DEFINATELY something my husband would hate, but much to my surprise he loves this and when I found I had enough (this make a huge batch)he froze the remaining candy so I wouldn't throw it out. It actually froze very well!
SORTA LIKE TAKE FIVE CANDY
3 cups pretzels
1 bag mini peanut butter cups
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Caramel
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line a 13x9 inch pan with parchment paper.
Unwrap peanut butter cups and throw them in the mix.
Crack 1 cup of pretzels, not too small. Place remaining 2 cups pretzels on prepared pan, add cracked pretzels.
Unwrap peanut butter cups, place on top of pretzels. Cover this with caramel. If using Kraft caramels, unwrap and place across top so you can spread this when they have melted.
Place butter in saucepan and melt over medium heat. When butter is melted, add the brown sugar and stir. Bring mixture to a full boil and boil for 1 minute, stirring once. Pour over pretzel mixture and bake for 8 minutes.
Remove pan from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over hot pretzel mixture. Return to oven for 1 minute to soften chips. Spread softened chocolate chips over bars.
Cool at room temperature. When pan is cool to touch place in refrigerator to set chocolate. Once chocolate has set, break up candy.
This makes a lot but it freezes well.
